I, Finley Appleton, am an artist who
loves everything Eldritch and macabre. My portfolio currently focuses on multi media game development and gothic low fantasy aesthetics. But beneath unfathomably large monsters, knights in shining armor, and mysterious magics is media that centers around femininity, and identity.
Growing up, I’ve always had interest in games, and what others might deem “masculine hobbies,” which always left me a yearning for a more feminine touch in play. I seek to create artwork and experiences that offer more feminine perspectives, as my work centers around women, and their active role stories. Projects such as HELLION and VERITAS, are key examples of this exploration, as they both include or follow female characters who are written with care and love. As a queer and autistic woman, identity also plays a major part in my artistic exploration, as a lot of my current work hones in on commentary from outside the neurotypical social hierarchy, the perspective of an outside observer looking in, seeing what happens when key factors are changed. PRESIDENT DEMENTIA SIMULATOR, and other projects in the works do not have an implication of gender identity. Even if they do, it is not necessarily at the forefront of my commentary- Instead of looking at society as a whole.

ABOUT ME
I am an artist who explores gender norms and identity, I seek to create spaces for women in games, while commenting on the roles that we play in them. I truly believe that games are a medium offer not just fun, but a human connection and a narrative experience- which I hope to accomplish with my portfolio.
